I don't know how many of you read the LPM blog, Beth Moore. But I was looking at it yesterday and they are starting today, January 1st with scripture memorization for the year. On the 1st and the 15 of each month you choose a new scripture to memorize, meditate on. You buy a spiral index card holder and carry it with you to memorize. By the end of 2009 we will have memorized 24 scriptures. Isn't that cool. So, I'm challenging you to either sign up on their blog or if you want a smaller, more intimate group, please join me. You can choose whatever scripture you want and then on the 1st and 15th we can all post our scriptures here and see what we are memorizing and hold each other accountable. Its ok, if we memorize the same scriptures or not, it will be interesting to see what scriptures come up!
If you are interested, just comment on my blog.
This is something I know I need desperately.
Here is my scripture, I opened my bible to look and it opened to the Psalms and this verse was hi-lited and just seemed to fit my life right now.
Psalm18:16
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
vs 17-19 go onto to say, He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place, He rescued me because He delighted in me.
I'd like to say I could memorize all of the above, I'll try but I dont' know if I can this first time. But, isn't that great scripture. Its exactly what I need at this place in my life.
I hope you will join me!

It is a great idea and I would like to join as well.
I saw your link on Betty's blog.
I read the LPM blog, but haven't checked in since before Christmas. I need to improve my scripture memorization too.
This 40 something year old brain is showing its age. I'll join you too.
Happy New Year,

I'm doing this too! Thanks for the suggestion and encouragement!
Hi Beth~
I wanted to post about this today and link back to you but I've been to busy. I cleaned the entire upstairs and some of down! I'm going to post tomorrow!
While I was cleaning out my end table drawer I found my small bible. So I thought OK I'll open it up and the first scripture my eyes see is the one I'll memorize. Well, there was a bookmark with Tori's photo on it and it was marked in Psalms.
Psalm 119:10
(it says Beth above it)
I seek you with all my heart;do not let me stray from your commands.
I'll put a post on my blog also.
I see Betty is in Psalm 119 too. I had decided to start memorizing Psalm 119 a few weeks ago.
So my scripture is
Psalm 119:1.
Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. (NIV)
Hi Beth. Stopping by from Betty's blog. I would love to join you in your "Scripture Memorization" pilgrimage.
My choice is one of my favorites although I don't have it completely memorized, hopefully I will now. It's John 3:16
I have started my index card holder. Just sent me the rest of the details on where and how we meet.
Thank you.
I am Michelle's sister from Tales from the Lunchroom, and I would love to join!
Just give me the details.
I'm going to start off with Jeremiah 29:11, one of my favorite verses.
Hi Beth. Found my way over from Betty's blog. I would love to join you in this venture!
My first verse:
Isaiah 26:4 - Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
(I decided to follow you and Betty in opening to the first verse I see. Funny what we're all lead to.)
I came here from Keeper of the Skies Wife, and I'm going to join you as well! It sounds like a wonderful idea. My first verse...
James 1:22
Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
I've also written down James 1:23-24 to keep with it and MAYBE memorize.
For if anyone is not a doer, he is like a man observing his face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he is.
Thanks for this - what a great idea! I'll like over from my blog this week too!
I saw this on Rachel's SNOTW blog & I'm in. I'll pick my first verse tonight.
Thanks for hosting
I found my perfect verse.
Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
